In his book, “Walkable City” Jeff Speck, one of the leading city planners in the country, concludes his book; “The downtown is the only part of the city that belongs to everybody.  It doesn’t matter where you may find your home; the downtown is yours, too.  Investing in the downtown of a city is the only place-based way to benefit all of its citizens at once.  . . .  Every relocation decision, be it a college graduate’s or a corporation’s, is made with an image of place in mind.   . . .   And, with rare exception, that image is downtown.”

The purpose of the Main Street program is to encourage economic revitalization through historic preservation. We are affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Perseveration’s Main Street Center through the Nebraska Main Street Network program.

Please consider coming alongside the efforts of Main Street Kearney, our board, and our committee members as we work toward our goals of economic revitalization through historic preservation and a strong and vibrant downtown business district.

We encourage you to be a part of the future of downtown Kearney.  Main Street Kearney is an independent non-profit organization, and needs your support to help downtown Kearney reach its full potential.

Nebraska Main Street Network Annual Meeting Recap

A big shout out to those of you who attended the annual meeting in Kearney. The meeting was held in the newly renovated upper floor bar of Cunningham’s Journal Bar & Grill downtown. It was a great space for our size of meeting and the food was excellent! A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Dick Reiter and his board in Kearney for their help in getting the meeting set up and for their warm hospitality throughout the day. I know many of you have already told me you had a great time and learned a lot about what is going on in everyone’s Main Street district. Attendees said they look forward to the next gathering of the network in the spring. From the presentations we saw that each community is doing something unique and different. We will be highlighting some of those projects and activities on our Facebook group page in the coming weeks so watch for that.

Main Street Kearney is one of seven communities to be awarded National Accredation.
