Downtown Kearney honors the defenders of our country!

On this Memorial Day, Downtown Kearney, its board and its merchants honor the defenders of our country and especially those that lost their lives doing so. This Soldiers Monument is in the west part of the parking lot north of the Museum of Nebraska Art is a daily reminder. It was erected in 1910 and originally located on the median strip west of the 25th Street and Central Avenue intersection. It was moved to the median west of the intersection in January 1957 and then to the MONA parking lot in 1994. It's 33 feet high, made of Barre granite and features a statue of a volunteer soldier of the Civil War with arms at rest proclaiming peace. We’re thankful for all soldiers, their service and, most of all, those that paid the ultimate price.
