Hub Enterprise Editor KEARNEY — Linda and Dan Muhlbach are the new owners of The Solid Rock Christian Bookstore in downtown Kearney.
The Muhlbachs had signed a deal with the business’s longtime owners, Bill and Ila Ballou, in early January, but waited until today (Tuesday) to announce they are taking over the business on Feb. 1.
Dan Muhlbach farms east of Kearney while Linda has most recently worked at Holy Cross Lutheran Church after a stint at Edward D. Jones. She is the founder of the HelpCare Clinic.
Linda said her husband enjoys farming, so she’ll likely be the face of the business.
“Dan will probably be pulling a calf while I’m the one behind the counter,” Linda said with a smile.
She said that she and Dan will close the business temporarily for a facelift and will conduct a grand opening in April, which would have been the 45th anniversary of ownership by Bill and Ila Ballou, who bought the business in 1974.
The Ballous had retired two years ago but continued to manage the business while waiting for a buyer. They announced on Jan. 5 that The Solid Rock at 2010 Central Ave. had been sold.
