Step into Olivia’s Salon at 2025 Central Ave, and you’ll immediately feel the blend of creativity and heart that has shaped this business for over two decades. Originally opened as Designer Nails south of the Railroad tracks, the salon evolved under the vision of owner Angela Mortensen, who rebranded the business as Olivia’s Salon in 2003. Inspired by her then two-year-old daughter, Olivia, Angela expanded the salon from a humble nail studio into a full-service beauty haven, now home to six styling stations. With plans for an exciting remodel and a seventh station on the way in 2025, Olivia’s Salon continues to grow alongside its clientele.
Known for its warm, welcoming vibe, Olivia’s Salon has built a loyal following thanks to a team of stylists who specialize in creating styles that reflect each client’s unique personality. From fresh cuts and trending colors to fashionable nails, Olivia’s Salon offers a personalized experience designed to leave you feeling confident and cared for. But it’s not just the styles they’re known for—it’s the genuine community spirit and personalized care that set Olivia’s Salon apart.
One of the salon’s most impactful community initiatives, “Operation Updo,” reflects Angela’s deep dedication to giving back. Through this program, the salon provided wigs, hats, and scarves to individuals fighting cancer, partnering with local organizations like the American Cancer Society and CHI to ensure that anyone in need had access to these resources. While the pandemic altered the structure of the program, the commitment to supporting individuals in difficult times endures; Olivia’s Salon still provides wigs directly from their catalog at cost, helping clients feel beautiful and supported during challenging moments.
Angela’s roots in Kearney run deep, and her connection to the community is at the heart of everything she does. Whether it’s attending Downtown Improvement Board meetings or simply greeting familiar faces at the salon, she’s dedicated to keeping Kearney’s community strong and vibrant. In addition to running Olivia’s Salon, Angela is also a part-owner of a popular local restaurant, The Cellar Sports Bar & Grill, further showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and her commitment to seeing Kearney thrive.
For Angela, one of the most rewarding parts of owning Olivia’s Salon has been mentoring young stylists. Watching her team grow in confidence and skills, and even seeing some open their own salons, is a testament to her dedication and passion for empowering others. “It’s an honor to be a part of their journey,” she shares, “and I’m so proud of every stylist who has gone on to make their own mark.”
Angela reminds the community that supporting local businesses isn’t just about shopping—it’s about recognizing the hard work, resilience, and heart that small business owners pour into their work every day. With kindness, respect, and community support, we can ensure that local businesses continue to thrive, creating a stronger, more connected Kearney.
